Blessed Are Those Who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

Date: Apr 19, 2026
Series: The Book of Matthew
Speaker: Tim Miller

This sermon continues the journey through the Beatitudes in the Gospel of Matthew, focusing on Jesus’ declaration that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be satisfied. The message explores the biblical meaning of righteousness, beginning with God Himself as the perfect standard of what is good, just, and true. Because God’s character and actions are always consistent, His promises are trustworthy and certain. The sermon explains that humanity’s fall into sin brought disorder and separation from God, creating the need for restoration to a right standing before Him and a right way of living. God, in His righteousness, made covenant promises to restore His people and His creation. These promises are fulfilled through the gospel and the mission of Jesus Christ, who came to fulfill all righteousness and call believers to seek first the kingdom of God. Listeners are challenged to consider what it truly means to hunger and thirst for righteousness, illustrated through examples of faithful longing in Scripture and the future hope of a new heaven and new earth where God will dwell with His people and make all things new. The sermon calls believers to live with faith, love, and hope, trusting in God’s righteous character and promises while longing for the full restoration He has guaranteed.
