Watching and Praying with Jesus through This Evil Age

In this message from our Book of Matthew series, Pastor Tim Miller explores what it means to watch and pray with Jesus through this evil age. Rooted in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18–20), we are reminded that making disciples includes teaching believers how to resist temptation and remain loyal to God through testing. Looking at Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36–41), we see that prayer is essential in the battle between the willing spirit and the weak flesh. The sermon explains the biblical pattern of designation, testing, and coronation seen in David and fulfilled in Christ. As believers living in “stage two” between Christ’s first and second coming, we share in this testing period. Through the Spirit’s power, we fight the “good fight of faith,” enduring trials with hope of future glory. Drawing from Romans 7–8, Galatians 5, the Parable of the Sower, and Jesus’ teaching on asking, seeking, and knocking, this message calls us to persistent prayer as the means of strength, endurance, and fruitfulness. Will we keep watch with Jesus? Join us as we learn to be and make disciples who persevere until He returns.
