What does it truly mean to be a disciple and make disciples of Jesus? In Strong Buildings, Fruitful Fields, Tim Miller introduces two biblical pictures that help us examine genuine discipleship: building a house and cultivating a field. Jesus teaches that a life built on His words must have a foundation strong enough to withstand the storm, while Paul reminds us that Jesus Christ is the only foundation and that the quality of what we build will ultimately be tested. The field metaphor raises another important question: Is spiritual fruit actually being produced? The seed must fall on good soil, yet while people may plant and water, it is ultimately God who gives the growth. This message begins a larger discussion about discipleship and disciple-making through the Parable of the Sower, asking how we recognize good seed, good soil, strong foundations, and lasting fruit—and pointing ahead to the important question of what distinguished Peter from Judas.
