Jesus' Genealogy: The God of Integrity, Surprises, and Perfect Timing
In this message from Matthew 1:1–17, Pastor Tim Miller unpacks what might seem like a simple list of names and reveals a deep portrait of God’s character. Through the genealogy of Jesus, Matthew shows us that God is a God of full integrity, faithfully keeping His promises to Abraham and David despite generations of human failure and waiting. He is also a God of surprises, working through unexpected people—especially the four women named in Jesus’ lineage (Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba)—to bring redemption and grace where others might see scandal or disqualification. And above all, He is a God of perfect timing, orchestrating every generation and event to fulfill His plan in the arrival of the promised King, Jesus Christ. This sermon invites us to trust in the same God today—the One whose integrity never fails, whose grace often surprises, and whose timing is always perfect. Whatever questions you carry about God’s “how,” “why,” or “when,” this passage reminds us: He is faithful to complete what He has promised.
