In this week’s message, Pastor Tim Miller explores how God identifies and reveals His chosen King by comparing the designation of David with the designation of Jesus. We look back to the dark days of the Judges, when Israel lacked righteous leadership, and see how God raised up the prophet Samuel to prepare the way for David. In the same way, John the Baptist emerges in a turbulent first-century Israel to prepare the way for Jesus. Pastor Tim highlights the striking parallels between Samuel and John the Baptist — their priestly lineage, miraculous births from barren mothers, Nazarite dedication, prophetic authority, and shared mission of calling God’s people to repentance and pointing them to the King God has chosen. The message then follows Jesus’ baptism, His divine designation, and His entry into testing, showing that God’s choice is never based on outward appearance but on the heart. Unlike any king before Him, Jesus proves to be the Good Shepherd who is fully loyal to the Father and lays down His life for the sheep. Finally, we consider what this means for us today — living in dark times, valuing what God values rather than outward appearance, and embracing discipleship as training for the future kingship promised to the people of God. Join us as we see how Matthew shows Jesus as the true and better David, God’s chosen King who is revealed, designated, and prepared to reign.
