Continuing through the Beatitudes, this message examines Jesus’ words: “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.” (Matthew 5:10) Pastor Tim Miller explores why persecution for righteousness ultimately reflects a deeper clash over authority—between God, the Creator who establishes the standard of righteousness, and those who resist His rule. Following Jesus means recognizing God’s authority, turning from our own wisdom, and choosing to live according to His standard. Scripture also makes clear that Christians should not be surprised when faithfulness to Christ brings hardship. There is no “fine print” in discipleship: following Jesus may involve rejection, suffering, and persecution. Yet believers are called to remain faithful, entrust themselves to their faithful Creator, and keep their eyes fixed on the promised reward. Through persecution and trial, Jesus’ promise remains: the kingdom of heaven belongs to those who faithfully endure.
