As the Father Sent Me, So I Send You

In John 20:19–23, the disciples are gathered behind locked doors in darkness and fear when the risen Jesus comes into their midst. He speaks peace, shows them the wounds of Calvary, and then gives them a second word: “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” In this message, Chuck explores what it means to be sent according to the pattern of Jesus. The Father sent the Son by the Spirit, with purpose, humility, submission, patience, and complete dependence upon God. Following Jesus means more than receiving His presence and peace—it means allowing Him to prepare our character, reveal the Father’s business for our lives, and send us in His timing. The sermon also looks at Jesus’ baptism and wilderness testing, emphasizing the dangers of seeking power or signs apart from character, allowing anything to become an idol, and misusing Scripture. Jesus remained faithful through temptation, suffering, Calvary, and resurrection, providing the pattern for those He sends. Finally, Jesus tells His disciples to receive the Holy Spirit and sends them to proclaim repentance and the forgiveness of sins. As followers of Christ, we are called to depend upon the Spirit, remain grounded in Scripture, forgive others, and stay ready for the people and places where God chooses to send us.
